Jenny
One day Friends to the Forlorn received a desperate plea from another group that was also involved in Pit Bull rescue. They informed me that there was a beautiful female Pit Bull in Heard County Animal Control. Another rescue group had stepped up to save her—the pound had her spayed and vaccinated. Unfortunately, at the last minute, the rescue effort fell apart. Due to overcrowding, she was put back on the euthanize list.
Something about her story spoke to my heart. I immediately jumped in my car and drove almost 2 hours to go pick her up. I called her Jane, for “Jane Doe.” On the outside she looked broken and defeated…all except for a little sparkle I noticed when I looked her in the eye. I brought her straight to the vet. She was extremely frail and was heartworm positive. I cleaned her up and brought her home to live with my pack. She immediately fit right in. I knew I had found a very special dog. The spark reignited; she was radiant with happiness.
Jane was in poor condition and needed to rest while she received her heartworm treatments. I knew she would never get the rest that she needed with my pack. So, with the help from some very special rescue friends, we sent her to a foster home in NC. I continued to work with Jane and took plenty of videos on each of my visits.
I shared the videos of Jane with my father. He and my stepmother were a little apprehensive at first because Jane was a "Pit Bull." But my father fell in love with her at first sight. My friend in NC was heading up to NY to see some family, so Jane hitched a ride to her forever home.
Today…
About a year has now passed. Jane—now “Jenny” —lives in Mahopac, NY with my dad, step-mom, and little sister. Every time I speak to them they tell me what a special and wonderful dog Jenny is. The best part is, when I visit dad... I get to see Jenny!
Special thanks to Jamie, Kim, Kelly, Pat and of course to Jenny for keeping my family in NY happy and smiling!
