Apollo (formerly known as Carmello)
Apollo is a handsome, white Pit Bull who has a second chance at life thanks to Friends to the Forlorn Pit Bull Rescue.

Life hadn’t always treated this boy well. He lay curled in a corner at a local animal control day after day, slowly dying of pneumonia. He no longer wagged his tail. He had given up hope. But his luck would soon change… Luckily, on this night, a guardian angel was with him.

Jason Flatt, founder of Friends to the Forlorn, was visiting dogs at this very same shelter, when he took notice of the little terrier. Upon closer inspection Jason saw that dog was terribly ill and frail, so he snatched him up and took him to a local vet clinic. A mere 27 lbs, the pup was suffering with a 104 degree fever and was diagnosed with pneumonia and kennel cough. He was kept at the clinic for two weeks.

As his heath improved Jason brought the pup into his home to join his pack. He and his wife named him “Carmello” because his fur had turned to straw and had become the color of caramel due to lack of nutrients and such extreme poor health. He was a broken dog. For two weeks no one even realized he had a tail because it was so tightly tucked under him. But the power of the pack prevailed. Carmello blossomed and his mellow and sunny disposition reemerged.

Today…
Today Apollo is a happy, healthy, 45lb Pit Bull…with a coat as white as snow. He lives with his new pack, a female Pit Bull and a senior male Maltese mix. Never without a tennis ball in his mouth, his favorite pastimes include snuggling, swimming, dock diving, and running through the countryside with his Agility pals.

Upon successful completion of the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test and excelling in Agility and Competition Obedience, Apollo has become a wonderful ambassador for the breed. But perhaps his greatest accomplishment is that he has also been certified as a therapy dog by Therapy Dogs International. Apollo has a second chance at life thanks to his guardian angels at Friends to the Forlorn. He now “pays it forward” by bringing smiles, kisses and a little happiness to others. This is what rescue is all about.
